The SeaTalk(R) <-> NMEA Bridge is a stand alone single chip computer, that translates information between SeaTalk and NMEA. It can read & write NMEA and read & write SeaTalk data.
(SeaTalk is registered trademark of Raymarine Ltd. Raymarine)

  • It translates SeaTalk data into NMEA data, so that you have depth, wind speed and direction, water temerature, position, rudder angel, speed etc. available on your board pc.
  • It translates NMEA data into SeaTalk, so that you can, for example, control the autopilot from the navigation software on the board pc.
  • The seatalk bridge comes with housing and LCD display.
    This LCD Display acts as an additional display for relevant navigation data from Seatalk and NMEA devices right on the chart table.
  • It works stand alone or in combination with your board PC. No need to have a power consuming PC running on the chart table.
  • With the latest software version, the bridge is also a remote control for a SeaTalk autopilot.+10,+1+,-1,-10,Auto,Standby,Track with visual feedback of course and rudder position.
  • With the latest software version, the bridge also calculates true wind heading and speed from either speed over ground or speed through water. It shows wind data in it's easily readable "big digits" display page
    Hardware is allready prepeared for logging feature. Will be available soon in one of the next software versions. (Can be installed by user)
    With this display you can see data like speed, depth, position, windspeed, waypoint info, etc. combined from both systems ( SeaTalk and NMEA ) on one display.

    Here is a simple example on what you can do with the SeaTalk NMEA Bridge.
    Connect your SeaTalk Instruments and your NMEA Network
    Have data from SeaTalk devices and from NMEA device combined in one display at the chart table.

    • Get data from your SeaTalk instruments to NMEA devices or to your computer
      If you have a Raymarine St60 Tridata, a ST40 Wind Instrument or other SeaTalk devices, the SeaTalk NMEA Bridge will translate information from SeaTalk to NMEA.
      With this function a navigation notebook or a chartplotter can now display wind direction, wind speed, water depth, speed through water and much more.
    • Send Data from your NMEA Devices to SeaTalk Instrumens.
      A ST60 Tridata can display Speed over Ground (SOG). The SeaTalk Nmea Bridge gets SOG from your GPS and sends it to the St60.
      The speed through water (STW) function of a ST60 tridata needs to be adjusted.
      The paddle wheels are different, waterflow arround different types of boat hulls are different - therfore your log need propper adjustent in order to display a correct STW.
      With the SeaTalk Nmea Bridge, you can send speed information from your NMEA GPS to the SeaTalk Instrument. This makes adjustment accurate, easy, fast.

    These are just two verry simple examples. With the SeaTalk NMEA Bridge you will many functions and features that haven't been possible before.

    Additionally you get a repeater display that shows information from SeaTalk and from NMEA devices in one single display

    Additionally to the standard SeaTalk -> NMEA conversion, the bridge software offers a new - NMEA like - command $STALK.
    With the command $STALK,xx,yy,zz the PC can send any SeaTalk command you like. Your PC just sends a simple text string, and the bridge handels the spezial 9-bit protocoll, the collision detection and the electrical connection to the SeaTalk bus. ( Either with your own software or with a standard terminal programm )
    With this new command a normal pc or notebook can send any SeaTalk command and so it can control or manage SeaTalk devices. ( Example : Switch Illumination of SeaTalk instrument on/off, Change Display units from mph to knots and and and )
    This special function is also available the other way arround.
    The bridge can send every SeaTalk datagram as a $STALK,xx,yy,zz string to the PC.
    This simple text string can be read and computed by the pc and so we can read information from the SeaTalk Bus, that have no corresponding NMEA sentence. ( Example : see above )

    The bridge comes with a printed manual and USB drivers.

    It is used for research on data communication, computer communication and data conversion with computers and instruments on board of boats.
    It must not be used as the main source for navigation information
    The user allways must to use charts and other conventional navigation aids.

Hello Frank Works as advertised. Thank you very much !!! One note: When you compile the source code on one machine and want to copy it to another you still need to install qt5 and the libraries but do not need to compile it again. I needed to change the file permission on the new device to allow execution: pi@raspberry:~ $ sudo chmod 0755 stConfig Obviously it needs to be executed in a graphical environment. Since I use my raspberry headless i was able to run it in a x11vnc session perfectly. Thank you again so much !!! Ralf

Hallo, ich bin gerade dabei zu versuchen eine neue Version für den PI zu compilieren. Ist etwas aufwändiger. Ich habe hier mittlerweile QT5 installiert und nun muss ich schauen wie ich das zu einer lauffähigen Version mit allen benötigten Libraries packen kann. Alternativ - wenn die QT Entwicklungsumgebung installiert ist, sende ich gerne sie Sourcen. Gruss Frank

Hallo auch von mir ein riesiges Dankeschön für den gelungenen Muxxer. Ich betreibe ebenfalls den RPi 3 als Nav-Computer an Bord meines Segelbootes und würde diesen gerne zum Konfigurieren des Muxxers nutzen. Bei mir startet stConfigPi ebenfalls nicht. Nema Bridge to Wifi to IPAD

Hi I have just completed interfacing the SeaTalk NMEA Bridge128SD with a USR=WIFI module to stream the data on WiFi via the RS232 port. I do all my offshore navigation on an IPAD but then discovered not many racing Apps use wifi, most use bluetooth. I was considering this when I came across an interesting page on Zifigo who make Iregatta offering a limited number of beta test vesions. http://www.zifigo.com/?q=node/666 Looks like an app is on the way, I am hopeful of getting one to evaluate. Maybe some other yacht racing members may find this link interesting. The SeaTalk NMEA Bridge128SD is a well made solution. I am looking forward to playing with it and the race info it provides.
